Industry Engagement and Orientation Day

The School of Biomedical Sciences, HKUMed, hosted its first-ever Industry Engagement & Orientation Day for the HKU Master of Biomedical Innovation (MBioInno) programme at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel Hong Kong.
Professor Michael Häusser, Director of the School, welcomed 63 outstanding students admitted to the highly selective inaugural MBioInno cohort.
Professor Joshua Ho, Co-Director of the MBioInno Programme, shared several interesting facts about the cohort: over 37% of students had more than three years of prior work experience; students had earned their previous degrees in diverse regions around the world, including Hong Kong, mainland China, the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Turkey; and students came from diverse academic backgrounds, including life and biomedical science.
Deep Industry Engagement: Senior industry executives presented their companies' visions, internship opportunities, and future plans. Students engaged directly, gaining valuable career and innovation insights.
HKU Innovation Ecosystem: Professor Stephanie Ma, Associate Vice-President (Research & Innovation) at HKU, shared the University's "Cora Reefs" approach to nurturing a vibrant deep tech ecosystem connecting academia, industry, and investors.
Panel on Biomedical Entrepreneurship: Mr. Collin Lau (Group CEO, Virtus Clinical Study & Translation Platform Limited), Professor Christopher K.S. Leung (Chairperson and Clinical Professor, HKU Department of Ophthalmology; Founder, SightTorch), Professor Joshua Ho (Assistant Dean of Innovation & Technology Transfer, HKUMed), and Dr. Lanqi Gong (CEO, Inspire Science Limited; Research Assistant Professor, HKU Department of Clinical Oncology) shared candid insights and hard-won lessons from building biomedical ventures.
MBioInno Entrance Scholarship: 13 recipients were awarded for their exceptional achievement.

Ultimately, we are building a collaborative journey that turns deep biotechnology and AI/digital health technology into real-world healthcare impact.
Applications for the 2027/28 MBioInno cohort will open on 2 October 2026.
