Capstone Project

The capstone project provides students with valuable practical experience to advance their career in the industry or further studies. Projects are drawn from the academic staff at the School of Biomedical Sciences, which can be found at https://www.sbms.hku.hk/faculty.

Industry Internship

Full-time students can choose to pursue an industry internship with one of our 20+ industry partners. Our industry partners provide more than 88 internship positions spanning areas from R&D, investment, sales and marketing, market research and business development.

Innovator Immersion Programme

Full-time students will automatically enrol in a compulsory non-credit-bearing Innovator Immersion Programme, which harnesses the non-teaching hours during weekdays to provide enhanced experiential learning activities.

This year-long compulsory non-credit-bearing course consists of a structured series of experiential learning activities that support a student’s career development as a biomedical innovator and entrepreneur. These activities complement other courses in this Master of Biomedical Innovation programme. The immersion programme consists of several structured experiential learning components such as:

Bioinformatics skills training: hands-on bioinformatics skills that are pertinent to modern biotechnology and digital health
Start-up rotation: structured programme that allows students to experience the entrepreneurial journey from ideation to execution
Research taster: structured research experience in HKU research laboratories
Industry engagement: seminars, meet-ups, hackathon and field trips to engage with industry professionals in biotechnology and digital health in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area

Part-time students interested in enrolling in the Innovator Immersion Programme are required to remit an additional fee, which represents the difference between the part-time and full-time composition fees, and part-time candidates need to ensure that they will be able to get sufficient time off from their employers to attend the programme.
